Available now 10/1/2021. An airplane hangar find! OK, not really, anymore than something is a barn find. I mean, who comes up with these silly catch phrases. Just because YOU didn't know it was in the barn doesn't mean it was lost...right? Who loses an entire car in a barn. Oh, there's that 78 Golden Eagle we parked 30 years ago?!? Maybe losing a needle in a haystack makes sense but losing a car in a barn...come-on!
Anyhow, this unrestored 1978 Black Golden Eagle has resided in both an airplane hanger and cottage garage in Colorado for a very long time and I bought it from a wonderful gentleman who was no longer driving it much....or ever for that matter as the 54k miles are in fact original and you can tell when you start and drive it.
It is wearing ALL of its original paint inside, out and underneath. It has been used but not beat. I've been doing this a very long time and this means hundreds of Jeeps. It really takes wallet and labor experience to know the value of original paint however nice or imperfect. It is honest and can be estimated accuratley when taken to a body shop or enjoyed if you happen to have a bicycle in the garage that could fall on it. Really.
I genuinely cannot tell a real Golden Eagle from a fake one if it has all the decals, wheels etc on it...unless it is in original paint...like this one.
This Jeep is ready to be driven or restored or both as you drive it and do whatever.
Black is a more rare color for A golden Eagle and the best IMO.
It has power steering and brakes. Optima Red top acidless battery. Air cleaner still has its fresh air intake. Radisator is original. Not a lot of fiddling under the hood.
Everything works...even the clock.
Dash pad for some reason is NOT cracked.
Tires are good, wheels have original paint (maybe a rattle can went to the spare), brakes are good.
It has a bolt on rear tow bar wtih lights on it that can easily be unbolted.without infringing upon the integrity of the frame. It could be used to put in your jet skis or move the landscape trailer.
Doesn't leak within reason...a few drips after sitting a long time.
The body while very good isn't perfect but not close to rusty. It has an area at the driver's foot with pinholes and near the JEEP stamp. Because it is black this would be an easy touch up with a rattle can but I wanted everyone a distance away to see how nice this is after 43 years,
Passenger side has no issues asside from a small pucker on the outside from use. No rot on the floor or side. Original hard to find side steps on both sieds in good condition.
The hood is very straight and the decal is weathered perfectly.
The driver's fender has been pushed in as shown but workable or drive it. Windshield frame is orginal and has no rot showing.
The radio is not cut, the speakers are. The steering wheel and all gauges are original.
The front seats were replaced whimiscally a long time ago as I was told the originals weren't that bad but 30 years ago, these were just Jeeps and not the collector items they are today. These match the color well and are comfortable. I have nice original front seats available for another $2k if it is a must but these are good sitters.
Rear is original Levi. Check out that floor.
The automtaic shifts like it should and can be enjoyed by everyone in the family that can drive a short wheelbase vehicle without texting. It does have the low range on the transfer case.
A few more pictures. Look close to see this has nicks and surface rust were the original paint is gone and not touched up or glossed over. There is TONS of curb appeal to this Jeep the way it sits but it is not a pristine repainted piece. If you aren't sure, let it go or come see it in person. I don't want to sell it to someone who won't be happy. There is no joy in that for anyone. This is a great Jeep to drive and a worthy candidate to restore.
Hard top, soft top, hard doors available for extra but comes as shown for this price.
