In from Texas is a clean body Jeep CJ7 Laredo in what the new market folks call BASE form which is why the price isn't higher. This is a true Laredo decodable on the trim tag and it could go back that way someday or never. That is up to you BUT it is waaay less expensive today as you see it here.
This is a typical for Rudy, clean bodied Jeep CJ that was never a bucket of rot that needed restored. I never swap frames or tubs on Jeeps. I have never patched a frame and I wouldn't think of selling an unsafe Jeep boat...aka fiberglass /plastic tub. This Jeep is all steel. All lights and gauges are original and work (except the clock knob is missing...but still works).
Tires are desireable 31x10.50r15 BFG ATs with nearly new tread even though they are older. Wheels are respectable and obiously never in salt.
Lets start here....this is original paint in the wheel wells and frame....
If the above photos don't mean anything to you...maybe you should call me and ask me to explain. Typed here I will simply share that is 38 year old original metal and still looks that good. Once a Jeep is painted you really don't know what was going on before it was painted. You need indicators. When the WHOLE Jeep is covered in undercoating and slathered, you just don't know what you are getting. The uneducated buyer just wants something shiny.
In this case, we KNOW this was never a bucket of rot slicked up with patches and body filler. This is important as any toy vehicle we buy will probably get re-sold someday and when you buy good bones, your money is better off. The key to ANY classic is the metal. All the mechanicals can be resolved but almost all reproduction metal is gargage, especially the reproduction tubs. I buy many of my Jeeps back years after people are done playing with them and many of my customers get all their money back or make some....because they bought good bones.
I can also tell this has an original windshield frame. That is the first place a Jeep will rust. I see Jeeps with double the price tag with aftermarket poor fitting windshield frames being sold to uneducated buyers. I'm wearing out as my simple ways can't match the hype of a used car salesperson selling slick, bright light Jeeps on a turntable spouting out how many were made in that particular year and giving a history lesson on the brand instead of knowing one intelligent thing about the specific vehicle being sold.
More details about the Jeep. It has power steering and a good shifting rare original Automatic transmission so everyone in the family can drive it. If you want this as a stickshift, I can turn this into a 4 speed for free in about 2 days in such a way you wouldn't know it didn't come from the facotry that way.
The steering column is a rear tilt model. It has a trac loc rear differential from the factory. I love this rear bumper with the receiver style hitch and think Jeep should have sold them this way from the factory. It could be removed if you do not like it by simply unboling it.
Swing away tire carrier is stock and both seats flip forward w nice aftermarket front seats installed.
The floors have been pro lined before I got it and looks very good. The liner will suffocate the metal from rotting by keeping oxygen off it and make the Jeep more user friendly than a painted floor. I know it wasn't ever rusty by looking underneath. There is no flaky, crusty rot. I realize it doesn't look new, but it shouldnt as it is almost 40 years old. It is original white paint under a Jeep 38 years later. It is a quick job to spray undercoating all over something and is will forever be changed.
I can see this floor isn't patched and the frame is still black from the factory.
Jeep shows about 130k but was certainly towed with mounts on the chrome original Laredo front bumper so true mileage will be less. My 2021 Dually has 70k on it so 130 after 38 years is pretty good. No big puddling oil loeaks underneath. Note the original guages AND 6 digit odometer. All 82 and newer CJs had a digit for 100000. I recently saw someone selling a "low mileage" 82 and newer CJ for $40k with an obviously swapped in 5 digit odometer. I feel bad for whoever bought it.. I also loathe the Chinese replacement speedos. You can tell as the colors and numbers are wrong. Notice the Laredo stripe around the gauge cover.
It drives and brakes well and of course no knocks, ticks or smoke from the engine. The carb was changed to a Weber by the previous owner. It runs well for a Weber and has the proper pressure regulator installed. The engine bay is original paint and clean (everyone should hate a CJ engine bay thats a different color than the outside paint). There's abother $50k+ survivor Jeep being sold elsewhere with no engine sticker on the grill...obviously repainted but not stated. Again, this market is wearing me out. I can see the truth getting muddier every day in this market.
The plastic valve cover was thankfully swapped out for a cast aluminum. Hood light works, washer squirters squirt, jack in place. This did have the awful dealer installed AC which could be revived, removed or let to ride along without harm as shown.
Factory chrome gill overlay installed with a couple small drilled holes. Replace it or don't.
This Laredo is about $15k cheaper than my nicer Laredos available at the time of this listing. It is a great driver quality Jeep that had a decent repaint years ago for the family that wants a nice CJ but has a lighter budget.
Factory Laredo decals can be purchased for about $350 if you want to further this along. Almsot forgot, this has very nice original rocker trim.
All tops and doors available for extra but comes as shown for $22,500.
Thanks for reading.
