LISTED 5/9/21....
SOLD TO TOM FROM IOWA 5/13/21...
THANK YOU!!
Available now is a very rare 1984 Laredo originainally from Phoenix AZ. I've had a hundred plus Laredos and don't recall every seeing this color combination. It is a very rich combination of Champagne and Nutmeg and it came this way from the factory.
This Jeep looks even better in person although I am quick to say it is driver quality paint that a common man would be proud to own. Even better, this Jeep is far improved from the original flawed AMC design that was available in 1984. This Jeep runs better, handles better, and will perform better than any new stock 1984 CJ7 ever made.
I got this Jeep out of Phoenix almost 10 years ago in tired original paint but all importantly, without any body rot. I had it painted factory color for a local fellow just up the road from my 2nd shop (I'm now in my 3rd bugger shop after starting in pole barn behind my house). This Jeep still has all original sheet metal with no patching. Phil retired from the refinery last year and offered this back to me which I quickly said YES!
When I first got this it had a good life as a desert rig. The two piece rear axle design had been upgraded to the improved one piece axle. Both differentials got traction devices adde in case you want to do anything more than get ice cream. You can ignore them or have the comfort of knowing they are there in a pinch.
More importanly, carbs are the most annoying part of a late Jeep Cj. These old Jeeps generally don't get driven much and the fuel evaporates and leave deposits in the passages along w losing octane. The excessive use of rubber vacuum hoses break down with ethanol fuel. In the 90s and 2000s Mopar offered a multi port efi kit for these Jeeps at an expense of about $5500 installed. Yep, this jeep has that kit. It is better than the simple throttle body yet still easy to support w factory used parts and a modern OBD port
Next up...well the 258 is a solid engine on any given day. So much so that Chrysler kept it around when they bought AMC in 1987 and it morphed into the 4.0. They eventually got rid of the terrible computer controlled carbs this Jeep came with from the factory and gave it the same EFI kit this jeep has on it today. A few years later enthusiasts realized that mixing components of these two engines got you V8 power without the oiling troubles inherent to AMC V8 engines. This mostly stock appearing engine is in fact a 4.6L stroker making reliable smooth power off idle and up into highway cruising speeds.
This Jeeps starts everytime whether hot, cold, incline, decline or listing on the side of a rock pile like it is capable of. Please don't forget these are Jeeps and not super lame museum pieces that require a diaper for drying. If you aren't familiar with stroker 6's...check this guy out.
I used one of these about 8 years ago in the last build I ever did for a customer and I hear from him on occasion and it is still going strong.
This isn't a violating install like a Small block or LS. It bolts into stock engine mounts and uses the same transmission etc.
I believe in this combination and am helping a friend put one of these in his LJ later this Summer.
The throttle response is unbelieveable and sooo much more fun to drive than a stock carbed 6.
By the way...this has a great shifting T5 manual overdrive transmission w Dana 300
A couple working old school KC Hi lighters mounted on nice stainless bumpers. If you don't like the bumpers thay can be removed in 15 minutes for a plain black or chrome channel and goofy knee knocking bumperettes on the rear.
OEM Original seats beautifully recovered by my local shop in new nutmeg material. The collectors have become so infatuated with these seats I would reduce the cost of this Jeep by $3500 if you'd prefer the aftermarket seats I have for this Jeep
Gorgeous uncracked Nutmeg dashpad with working clock, upgraded tach to work with the EFi. OEM speedo w unknown miles as this Jeep was towed but believed to be low 100ish. Fuel and temp gauges work. Aftermarket oil pressure gauge installed to get a more reliable reading of the investment under the hood. Really nice custom Grant wheel w Jeep center cap. Of course all lights, horn heat work. Note the twin stick on the Dana 300. Again, if you want to use this Jeep as it is capable of, the features are there. If you want the stock shifter I'd gladly remove this feature and downgrade it to stock in about 20 mins.
I've been doing this a long time and have learned that re-paint on a Jeep floor is quite unusable as it scratches easily and not painting it when a jeep is painted is just foolinsh. Do-it yourself lining always looks liek you did it yourself. This floor was pro lined by a local company color matched w UV protectant and looks as good today as it did 10 years ago. The metal is suffocated from rusting. Carpet in a CJ is for the collector Jeep that won't ever get wet again. If you want to use a Jeep, this is the way the factory should've done it. This Jeep floor can literally get hosed out and let the water pour out of the holes the factory installed because they knew they would leak water no matter what top you had on. Speaking of which, this Jeep comes as shown but I will include a nice 10 year old Bestop soft top in tan that shows very little signs of use.
So we've been over the engine, the efi, traction devices, the one piece rear axles and the list isn't over as to improvments as to why this Jeep is better than any new 1984 CJ7. It also has a YJ spring conversion on it. Don't get scared. We all know YJs sucked but the springs were better. The front springs are one half inch wider than a CJ wich allows for a flatter more stable handling eperience. They bolt on. No welding or chassis fabricating required. Notice these shackles are heavier than stock, they are greasable and have a towing point to hook a towbar to.
To compliment the suspension are 5 really nice OEM Laredo wheels on zero mile 33x10.50r15 BFG All Terrain Tires. I can't reach everyone here but did you ever notice how many Jeep listed for sale have crappy offbrand tires that you've never heard of before?
It is because they cost less and they didn't think you would care . It may also be because they as Jeep owners or sellers are simply cheap and buy whatever costs the least and still fills the hole. Consider extrapolating that decision and apply it to the rest of their work.
Well, that's about all I have to say about this pretty neat machine. You'll notice the wheel wells were painted and the underside doesn't have undercoating slathering up to hide a bunch of body work that isn't there like so many Jeeps. The underside of this is original from 1984! The frame is still factory black!
Almost forgot, it does have a tilt column and a factory 20 gallon fuel tank. Lastly, for an extra $500 I can include all the original hinges and such to replace the stainless stuff if that isn't your thing. Whomever buys this will be ahead of the game in having a more reliable and better handling CJ.
I can help with shipping and I'm easy to deal with regarding payment.
Thanks for reading.
