It was a clean original CJ8 when I found it w very tired original paint (shown below).
This is not a fools gold slicked up rusty pig with shiny paint and bondo. This is a very good original metal, collectable widetrac CJ8 Scrambler built by one of the only tenured Jeep CJ only businesses in the world
It is now the shiny and preserved machine you see displayed today that is ready to show and go.
When you buy quality, it's an investment, not an expenditure.
Notice the clean original top, original wheels, center caps and super rare rocker trim in nice condition.
Most Cjs these days have to use aftermarket wheels. Keep in mind, I can add your style wheels if you don't want rare original ones. If your eye is good, the spare was shipped to me in the wrong size. It is to wide and the correct tire is on it's way to me and will be installed before it leaves.
If you want to use this Jeep a bit, it does have upgraded one piece axleshafts in the rear AND the best 4 speed of the era in a T176 4 speed. % New PREMIUM 33x10.50r15 BFG AT Tires on original rare chrome Jeep wheels. Most dealers use cheap Toyos or knock off mud grabbers etc as they think you won't notice so they can make more money. I'd want good tires if it was my jeep to keep.
So many people don't understand that a lift on a CJ is only a few hours and no permanent modifications to install or remove. I can undo the lift in an afternoon if you feel this Jeep is MOLESTED. There is no welding, cutting etc IF you don't like a lift. My thing was always 4" and 33's like this...
Really, really nice original seats recovered by my local guru.
Notice the original CJ monogram impressed in the vinyl. So many CJs you see have aftermarket, inexpensive new Chinese seats because the originals are so hard to find. I have them and they are on display in this really great valued Widetrac Jeep Scrambler
Original non Chinese steering wheel, horn button on a factory tilt column...
All factory gauges instead of Chinese knockoffs....w everything working of course using a factory clean wiring harness instead of something aftermarket that kind of fits everything... While we are here, best transmission of the era in a T176 4 speed mated to a Dana 300.
Original hard to find center console as well w an uncracked dash pad. The dash pad is Mopar licensed and better than OEM as 35 years later we have better vinyl manufacturing processes.
The floor was never rusty and never will be from the topside w a pro installed color matched lining to suffocate the original metal. Never buy a nice Jeep w do it yourself lining. It looks terrible and doesn't last.
Bed floor is reasonably straight and original and VERY useable unlike a painted floor....yes, 1 seat is easy to add back here.
2 Is do-able so this means I can add a full soft top and offer a credit for this top and the removeable bulkhead (panel under the top bolts in and out...aka front of truck bed). This Bed is protected AND useable w an original RARE STEEL, NOT fiberglass reproduction bulkhead. If this was painted, you could never put something back here without worrying about including a lawn chair to go to a local car show or hauling the big (well trained) dogs that won't jump out. We can of course remove the top and doors and add 1 or 2 rear seats for more people like this one I built awhile ago...
The engine on this is the durable 258 6 cylinder. Not as sexy as the V8 (which was never offered after 81 in a CJ) but unlike the V8, it is a good engine. Chrysler kept the 4.2 six and ran it as the 4.0 until 2006 puting out millions and millions of miles. They scrapped the V8 quickly as it had oiling issues and generally a poor design for lots of miles.
Original Air cleaner, power brakes, power steering, radiator w upgraded valve cover as the oem plastic was terrible....like oem dash pads, it wasn't time for a plastic valve cover. Underhood light working. Minor iginition upgrade w Motorcraft coil and distributor. The inner fenderwells and firewall are original paint. I start w better Jeeps and end w a better product. So many people start with "a deal" that runs great and only needs...a tub, fenders, frame patching, floors etc etc.
I use original carbs or efi...no fuel eating weird rectangular Webers or Motorcraft 2100 that needs linkage fabricated and a different air cleaner. If yo can use non eethanol fuel, your carb will be happier longer.
Clean underside too. No slathered undercoating. That's a lot of original paint on that frame.
That's original paint in the wheelwell and frame....really You can also see the HD shackle and shckle mount if you have a good eye.
This is a really solid, quality and hard to find widetrac Scrambler w more original parts than not. Drive it, show it, collect it, recoup all, some or maybe more of your initial investment if you ever want to sell it.
Thanks for reading,
Rudy
