This is my kind of Scrambler. I genuinely would keep it but I can't drive things I have now and quite frankly, I have limited space and this is how the Hippy and I eat so it goes up for sale. ( I have another even dustier Scrambler shown here that I just can't bring myself to sell just yet). If I do, it will be priced higher than this one.
I get calls from people regularly thinking I'm the uptight collector guy who knows paint codes like a saint knows bible verses. I am really not that guy. The core of my business is and always has been that I loathe rusty junk I personally for myself as an individual who's had hundreds of CJs, like ones that can be used without regret for the way they were intended.
I appreciate that some of my customers may want a showroom original vacuum packed CJ that's been stored in a dark room.
I also know many of my customers need some shiny paint in the garage to appease higher powers in the household to justify the investment.
This one isn't vacuum packed but does have some shine and isn't close to rusty patched up junk "deals" like so many people call me about buying tubs, frames, fenders, windhshield frames for.
It's 2018 and every word offends someone. Yes, building a Jeep from a rusty hulk at an initial investment of $500 can be fun, therapeutic AND the best father child experience I personally can imagine...but I still hate rust.
This Jeep has done work in its life and is capable of doing more OR being restored if the new owner so desires.
I bought this Jeep from an older gentleman in California that used it both in Colorado and Ca. He was genuine and unique person like his Jeep is a genuine and unique Jeep.
Darwin flat towed this Jeep to me from California behind his Cherokee because he's never been to Ohio! Sadly, I didn't get to meet him as he came to my shop after hours somewhat unscheduled and was gone like the wind he blew in on.
He bought this Jeep almost new one year after it was sold.
The odometer shows about 155k miles but was towed so the actual miles are less but unknown. The engine runs as it should with no ticks, noises, smoke etc and the t5 manual transmission shifts perfect and appears rebuilt.
The carburetor has been upgraded to a Weber AND the needed fuel regulator to keep it from being rich.
It has about 4" of lift and 33" BFG Tires on original wheels with oem chrome center caps.
Significant expense was invested in the differentials to regear them and put in a better than stock rear traction devoce however it is not overly aggresive to diminish on road manners. The regear allows it to not be a dog like most lifted CJs.
For those who want a stock height CJ. It takes only a few hours to lower a CJ to stock height like it was never liften in the first place. I might consider doing that for someone as I have many sets of clean West cost oem springs and 6 cylinder differentials.
Hardtop has a slider window installed
All lights and gauges work.
The original seats have been reupholstered.
The USA made winch works as it should
Comes with original hard top, hard doors, bulkhead and seldom seen OEM wood side rails.
It uncommonly has the oem side steps.
The Jeep is rot free sheet metal with surface rust where there is anything. Both front floors have had the paint rub through and the carpet held mpoisture but no rust holes.
The inner fenderwells are shiny original paint
The rear bed is very solid with dents and deflections from being used.
The frame is mostly factory black and has never had any rot repair. There is a mend near the winch on the passenger side which is odd as it is normally the steering box side that needs fixed. It is a solid repair and needs no attention.
It has a 20 gallon factory tank, disc brakes, widetrac differentials, power steering and power brakes. It does not leak as much as an old AMC should and I'd venture to say it doesn't leak as I haven't seen drips in my shop but it may with long runs and high heat.
It has a HD receiver style hitch on the back with a loose wiring pigtail. The front towbar is clearly solid and has wiring to quick connect to your vehicle
The paint is respectable and certainly not full of body work and it is clear there are no patches done or needed. It does have bruises from being used but unlike a sparkling new paint job with no before photos, you can see what you're getting here.
The underside is desert dusty and a great candidate to use and or restore.
I REALLY like this Jeep. If it were my only CJ I'd be proud to own it and would 2 track it in Michigan and Howell EFI it and take it to Colorado. I would never expose it to salt and if I ever wanted to sell it, there would be a stack of phone number I would have kept from people that leave notes on it in parking lots.
You see my red 81 59k Original mile Arizona CJ8 in the background. It may come up for sale soon but I have to show it to my local Jeep dealer first as he often buys things before I list them. It is being held up as I am helping Phoenix Graphix work throug a challenge with their decal kit. My price on it will be around $40k and I do have photos of the body after sandblast in all original metal.
My price is negotiable without the hardtop or doors. (I generally prefer my Scramblers open air with a Bestop full soft top tucked away in case of rain)
Thanks for looking,
Rudy
