Right from a ranch in northernmost Montana is a 1982 CJ8 Scrambler still sporting it's original paint and decals and it has NO ROT anywhere.
It has about 91k miles on it and has been sitting for "awhile". The owner died and it has been sitting as a memory for many years. It was in the same family for at least the last 19 years. It may be a one owner Jeep but I forgot to ask and the widow was emotionally attached to it and I'm not calling her about it.
It was started this Spring by pouring gas in the carb. It is a 6 cylinder with a 5 speed.
Also has a tilt column and 20 gallon tank w power steering.
The Jeep has ZERO rot issues. No bubbling anywhere except one spot I don't love on the original windshield frame where the gasket held a little moisture. I'd still say even that spot could be sanded out but I would replace it if it was me simply due to the low cost of a new one and the ease of painting.
I can't speak on the mechanicals of this piece other than I was told it was driven to where it was parked but that's not why you would buy this Jeep. It is about not having a rotted frame and body. The original paint hides nothing. The front fenders are dented heavily at the front I assume from pushing cows (really).
There is also a dent top right rear as shown. The bed and floors have orange surface rust but NOTHING that won't sand out. The front fenders are dented but as a testament to the condition of the metal, some of bare spots where the paint is gone is bare, shiny steel. Anyone living in a humid or salty reqion of the country knows how rare this is.
This Jeep needs restored or at least to have all the rubber stuff changed which I would do 100 times before I would buy something rusty. The tires are dry. Seats are worn but it's all there and it's affordable.
I know not everyone sees what I see in a tired old Jeep like this and that's ok but I'd rather have 10 of these than 1 shiny Jeep all patched up. The underside is dirty and protected but not rusty! I shouldn't have to write this but the frame is perfect. It is caked up with dried sand, mud which is preserving this one, not rotting it (because it is dry on the East side of the mountain range this was at).
The price listed is the bare bones bottom price WITHOUT top, bulkhead and VERY cool 8274 Warn winch. Add $1000 for the top, bulkhead and winch. I am listing the Jeep 'stripped' to make it more affordable to someone on a tighter budget who may not need or want those items. A top can always be added later or you can run a soft top etc. BTW, the doors were stolen years back.
