Barn Find? NO! I refuse to post a 'barn find'. I sware everything is found in a barn these days. My shop is in farm country and don't know a single farmer who has lost any vehicle. "There's that hemi cuda we had hiding behind the planter" said no farmer ever. You may not know it's there, but I assure you, it isn't lost. Maybe I'm being to literal. Let's face it, social distancing is hard on everyone.
This is a one family owned last half year of production 1986 Jeep CJ7 with only 45,409 miles on it
How do I know it was the last half year? As AMC was going out of business in 1986 they ran out of Model 20 rear differentials which they made for themselves. To finish production they contracted Dana to deliver the more reliable Dana 44, which this one has. The benifit was a traditional one piece axle as opposed to the poorly designed AMC unit w 2 piece axle shafts. This doesn't matter anymore as the next life a CJ has is way easier than the original intent of them which was offroading.
The selling price of this Jeep is listed as "only 25k" for the reason this seems like a no brainer to me compared to the things I see listed for sale and what people are always asking me for. "I want an unrestored Jeep that hasn't been all modified".
Dang...crooked photo. Well, I'm not a salesman and never wanted to be. I honestly hate selling things and not because I want to keep them. It gives me anxiety. I write this as I'm torn to list all the original items on this Jeep in a giant impressive list or tell you what isn't original.
I'll go for the latter. Asside from rubber things like a few radiator hose and tires (Which are all but new BFG Ats)...Still hate that no one ever seems to notice other dealers buy the cheapest crappiest tires for the over priced things they sell. Virus rambling again
Ok, so a few rubber things have been changed and a stereo was added without cutting the dash. This Jeep was sold without a stereo like most CJs. The speakers were installed mindfully with zero drilling.
The underhood is original excepting a radiator swap surely from old coolant sitting while in storage. All the 1986 emissions are in tact. It runs oddly perfect with puddling of oil. I would drive this until I had an issue and then start removing the old technology until it ran right again...if I didn't have emissions testing where I was. A purist can choose to endlessly correct issues as they arrise.
The paint on the Jeep is mostly original with spot work of well matched touch-ups where surface lifting occured from long term storage somewhere with some humidity. The floor of this Jeep is 100% original paint if you have any concerns.
Seats are untorn. Dash has no c
racks. It was sold with no console.
Original visor sticker uses a lot of words to say "Ralph Nader made us write that you may roll over"
Lots of cool original documentation including dealer window sticker and a first for me, an original unued set of keys that still has the dealer stock number on the tag with the "new" box checked.
Original manuals in great shape
Original glove box stickers...not reproductions
The Jeep comes as shown for the price listed however for extra I have the original inadequate JEEP branded soft top and doors available in far better shape than should be expected. I personally would opt for a new Bestop soft top if I wanted a soft top at all.
I also have available for extra the original hard doors in excellent condition.
The underside of this Jeep was undercoated likely when new which helped preserve it
Moving on to the Jeep.
This is a one family owned, rot free, unrestored 1986 Jeep CJ7 with only 45k original miles. It was clearly stored for a long time.
It has the sought after Dana 44 rear differential that AMC installed as they were going out of business and had run out of the normal Model 20, It has the better 3.31 gears in it.
