Last half year of Jeep CJ production:
1986 Jeep CJ7 w 45k original miles, 6 Cyl, 5 speed, Dana 44, Window sticker, Original seats. Shiny red original rot free floor 90% Original paint. The only non wear items unoriginal on this Jeep is the 2 post modern radio...yes, that means the dash is uncut and the slide in speaker pods...yes, they slide in and out. Tires, hoses, radiator and a few rubber hoes have been changed. I don't really care but all the time I read "All original". I beleive most don't even know what original looks like anymore. Measure them to this.
A value for a really great collectible low mile driver.
SOLD 5/11/20
Not a Jeep for the underglass, white glove, concourse buyer. It would be $35k for this model with these miles for that buyer.

Compare this to the shiny Jeeps at the high overhead Glitz and glam dealers and buy 3 of these instead

If you've found this page and are in the market for a Jeep CJ, please take a few minutes to read one experts thoughts on what is important in your investment.
I've been specializing in sourcing and healing the cleanest sheetmetal 76-86 Jeep CJs full time for well over a decade.
You don't need to buy from me, but please ask for the beforehand photos of whatever shiny paint Jeep you are about to buy. What did it look like before they applied that shiny slick paint job? Where did it come from? Read the carfax not for the owners or the fender bender but instead for the location it spent most of its life. Was it from the Midwest or East Coast with the road salt? The South with the mud and humidity or the coast with the ocean salt spray? ...or is it from the desert?
My business is about the metal not just shiny paint with no before hand photos. I hear all the time about what a great "deal someone got on their Jeep for $2000...$5000 etc....and then they ask me if I have any tubs or frames. Sigh.
Even worse I see people spending a lot of money on short term shiny paint rigs that will not hold their value long term because the
I have more used parts than anyone in the country which allows me to get tired clean CJs back into form for you to enjoy. This is different for evey CJ as they've all had unique lives and different potential for the best value.
Start with good metal and have something. Start with rusty junk or shiny paint patched up Jeeps and waste your time and money. Shiny Jeeps with bad bones are pyrite.
I encourage you to buy an ugly Jeep with good bones and fix it if you can't afford one with good bones AND shiny paint. It will hold its value much better than one full of Chinese parts and patches with diamond tread and undercoating.
Btw....most Jeeps are body color underneath with AMC primer. They are NOT black unless a dealer applied undercoating when it was new or along the way.
A NEW crate motor is less then $2000 at any parts store. Don't fall for the runs great Jeep full of patches on the body and frame. Engines are easy. Good metal is not.
There are no new bodies worth the crate they come in.
Changing a frame is similar to putting a new foundation under your house. It is a fun job but not cheap. Under all circumstances buying a better Jeep is a smarter finiancial decision than replacing a frame. All circumstances. Replace a frame because you want the therapy and fun of doing it.
Start with something good and have an investment.
Start with junk and have a money pit.
The cleanest Jeep CJs left in the country are on the POP-OUT under my Jeeps for sale tab OR ON MY HOME PAGE.
If you don't see anything, call me as I generally don't post them quickly as I don't have to and updating this site isn't much fun.
If you want to see some of my past Jeeps please click here
Thanks for reading and I hope you got something out of this page.
Best,
Rudy

HOW TO BUY A JEEP CJ...
1) ASK FOR THE BEFORE PAINT PHOTOS of the driver and passenger floors (especially if it has been lined)
2) Ask for photos under the Jeep stamp (before paint)
3) Ask for an underneath photo. Don't mind the dirt but it should not be freshly undercoated and it should be body color or maybe old dealer undercoated and not full of flaky rust
There's more but I know you won't make it this far on 99% of the Jeeps for sale by anyone...
