1977 Jeep CJ7 Golden Eagle w Levi Interior
Not Junk
$17,500
Listed 10/21/26
Golden Eagles are always cool and hard to verify...unless it's in original paint like this one.
I see Golden Eagles for sale and the graphics just call to you w the cool eagle on the hood. Then you realize the frame and body needs replaced and you bought a hood w cool stickers and everything impossible to get is bad (the body).
The new gimmick is to sell a body tub called made in USA. It can be called Made in USA because they weld together patch panels punched out in Brazil. Somehow, I believe they are better than the absolute crap Phillippino tubs previously sold. :(
This one is way better than that but also 50 years old and unrestored. Please read on...
This was originally sold in South Carolina and I acquired it from Montana by way of an older fellow who bought it as part of an estate
He did some old guy stuff to it but didn't ruin it (The gold accents on hood catches and cowl screen and preservative black paint underhood and on front floors to stop surface rust). Of course the cowl screen and catches can be easily resolved.
The exterior paint and graphics are original so every imperfection is visible. Original paint never lies. Dent shown on hood and dips in front fenders. Otherwise it's quite straight.
The tub is clean with no rot. Floors are very nice. Extra holes from a full roll bar removed at some point. The front fenders are thinking about rusting as most narrow trac Jeeps do and it is shown. They are not junk. It has an original no rib windshield frame that is very hard to come by, also showing signs around the glass and would be repairable if you wanted to retore this. The Chinese windshield frames, look different, don't fit and are made thinner. So many 'restored' expensive Jeeps from other non Jeep shops are sold with these flawed frames.
The rear sides of these narrow trac Jeeps really wanted to rot where the spot welds are and this one has not. There is also no rot on the rear corners or under the Jeep stamp as all CJs did, especially the early ones. You see on both sides where a proud trail badge was once placed from Delta Colorado (I have the badges if you want them). If you don't, I have a true old school Jeeper acquaintance I want to send them to.
The frame of this Jeep has zero rot and the underside of the Jeep is very good for 50 years old.
The Jeep was towed which makes the odometer keep turning and miles are less than shown but who knows how much less. Title shows exceeded. It starts and runs very well with no ticks, knocks or rattles or signs of being rebuilt. I see some smoke at long idle which is probably valve seals. The carb is OEM which I had rebuilt. Works very good. Engine carries a lot of oil pressure. I'll take a good 6 over an AMC V8 any day. Chrysler kept the inline 6 when they bought AMC until 2006 and dumped the AMC V8 and all its troubles asap.
For whatever reason this Jeep isn't leaking.
This has my favorite and best manual transmission ever put in a CJ which is the T18a. Rated for a 2 ton truck, it works right and when you shift it, you feel like you've done something manly. It works well.
Both the trans and tcase have their cool oem knobs
4wd works
One piece axles added at some point to deal with AMCs problematic Model 20 2 piece axles.
Big Warn hubs up front w disc brakes. Cool rear tow bar.
Big old school upright Warn winch w remote works and is super cool
It drives respectably. Not new like but not scary either.
Ckassic BFG MT tires are like new regarding tread depth...but old. Tread has dry cracks and sidewalls look ok.
Original hard to find Levi interior Drivers seat shows wear but not embarrassing. Pass, back seat, visors and uncracked dash pad (nearly unheard of) all look better than they should for being 50 years old. I have loose levi buttons if you want some for the missing ones.
Has oem windshield hold down strap in place and shown.
Cool oem Renegade / Golden eagle steering wheel and horn button (Horn works)
Jeep was loaded when ordered.
Jeep radio (Most Jeeps had dealer installed radios and the dealers went to Kmart, radio shack etc).
Tilt, tach, clock, power steering, power brakes and Air conditioning.
Clock Tach and all gauges work. The early clocks like this didn't have quartz movement and rarely work...but this one does. A 'restored' Jeep usually has a crappy Chinese one in it. Radio looks like it should work but is AM and will require AC to be dropped to review wiring. AC is old and does not work but does blow air.
All lights and features work excepting indicator for left turn signal on the center gauge. The exterior turn signals work. Again, the underdash AC unit is in the way to change the bulb. If I was keeping this, I would toss the AC but you get to decide.
All tops and doors available but sold as shown.
This classic Jeep is a worthy investment toy for the cabin, car show, lake house etc. You will stand out from the golf carts and side by sides. This one could be restored or driven as is for a long time and simply enjoyed.
Please just call to make it yours. I have shipped Jeeps all over the country and some internationally.
Thank you,
