1982 Jeep CJs and newer came with 6 digit odometers. I've mentioned this many times because it is important. There are MANY so called low mile 81 and older CJs advertised. They have 5 digit odometers and mileage records weren't on computers and therefore the legitimacy cannot be proven or disproven. The 6 digit odometer is a big deal for proving the value of your investment if you are paying for low mileage.
1982 was a good year for CJs beyond the speedometer. The CJ7 and Scramblers got widetrac differentials (82-86). They are about 3" wider than previous years and said to be more stable.
82 CJs also tend to have less emissions. This 258 engine was sold new without a computer controlled carb. This is nice for simplicity and less problems. The emissions varied based on where things were sold and this one has less than many and makes for easier ownership. 83 and newer all had more complex emissions. Simpler is better w a CJ and 1980s technology.
On topic, the engine runs like a 43k Mile engine should. The t5 factory overdrive Manual transmission and Dana 300 transfer case also work correctly.
Most important about all CJs I sell and how I've stayed in business for nearly 20 years is good oem metal. The metal on this CJ isn't rotten junk. It doesn't have rotten metal and has mixed original paint which is honest Original paint never lies. Dents, rust etc are all right there in front of you. The front floors are original paint. All the floors are very nice w very limited touch ups (not done by me).
Low miles is nice, good metal is more important, having both is pretty ideal. I personally have cut up a 3k and 6k mile Cj7s that had good parts but were rotted. I've passed up other low mile rotted CJs that another big reseller bought. The metal is number 1 as the aftermarket stuff is junk.
The frame on this CJ of course also isn't rotten or repaired.
It appears to have been dealer undercoated which helped preserve this. It is full thickness without flaky rust inside of it.
I expect this Jeep was used as a fair weather urban commuter. It has had numerous panel touch ups in an attempt to preserve the original paint. Some is original, some panels have been painted and the paint match is as expected with 43 year old metallic paint. It does not have any rot. You will see I have more photos than usual of the similar angles. I am trying my best to show you the paint disparities. In some light / angles, you won't / don't see the mismatch. In other lights, angles, it is more apparent. I can see lots of oem spot welds which is always desirable for showing quality metal. It has the VERY rare oem no rib windshield frame in very nice uncommon condition. There is a spot of surface rust shown in the pic w a chip out of eyesight shown in the gallery.
This is a REALLY nice low mile investment quality CJ w imperfect paint value priced. Paint quality isn't math with a right or wrong answer. It is in the eye of the beholder. It's shiny and nice, imperfect with potential and priced accordingly. One person may like it how it is and another may want to paint this Jeep. Either way, it is priced accordingly to enjoy as it is or take to another level.
I often paint a Jeep like this but it looks so good I thought I'd bring it to market to see if it speaks to someone. This Jeep painted and re-decaled would be in the $40s. I like being able to sell lesser expensive quality Jeeps so more people can afford them.
The seats are original and nice. This was a soft top only Jeep and the very rare fat ended dash pad is not cracked (you will notice that many dash pads have factory cut outs at the ends for the moveable vent windows to open into). This style dash pad is not available aftermarket.
This Jeep was sold without a console and I've shown the original paint floor with no holes drilled. One can easily be added.
Dash is uncut with an old likely dealer installed 2 post Kenwood stereo.
Original Renegade steering wheel.
Everything works...lights, gauges, horn etc.
All 5 original wheels in original paint.
Original spare tire from 1982 on the back in new condition w OEM lock still installed.
4 new BFG AT tires...not cheapo Chinese things.
Brakes and steering work well.
The front push bar easily unbolts if this Jeep isn't quite boring enough. I like the push bar and it's era correct. Throw on a couple KC lights w smiley covers and all will be right with the world.
All tops and doors are available but not included. Jeep comes as shown.
Please call to discuss anything.
Thank you!
