LONG STORY
This is an all original steel always rot free 1985 Jeep CJ7 Laredo. It was a West coast CJ previously owned by an aviation enthusiast. I mention this as pilots have to take care of their equipment.
It runs, drives and looks very nice with only 69,750 original miles. It has its original 6 digit odometer. AMC started using 6 digit odometers in 1982. This is important. Many CJs these days are getting replacement center gauges w new odometers and 81 an older CJs only have 5 digit odometers w paper kept mileage records that cannot verify accuracy. It is your investment and this matters if you are paying for low mileage.
The original carbureted 258 engine is quiet, smoke and rattle free. Reminder, Mopar kept the AMC inline 6 until 2006 and ceased the AMC V8 when the parts were gone. On topic, the engine runs better than it should. The problematic overly complicated and flawed 80s emissions have been removed and simplified with the tried and true HEI ignition. Twice the spark and 1/10 of the wiring and components. It still has a high flow catalytic convertor installed. These do not rob power. They do help the environment and keep you from smelling like gas when you drive it. The original leak prone plastic fire starting valve cover has been replaced w an improved cast aluminum one. It has power steering and power brakes. The t5 factory overdrive Manual transmission and Dana 300 transfer case also work correctly.
Most important about all CJs I sell and how I've stayed in business for nearly 20 years is good oem metal. The metal on this CJ isn't rotten junk. It doesn't have any rotten metal and never has. It had one nice quality repaint back to the original color which is obvious in person as the floors and engine bay are original paint. The correct original decals were reapplied. The floors, topside and bottom side are original condition / paint and not touched up. The carpet is factory AMC carpet.
Low miles is nice, good metal is more important, having both is pretty ideal. I personally have cut up a 3k and 6k mile Cj7s that had good parts but were rotted. I've passed up other low mile rotted CJs that another big reseller bought. The metal is number 1 as the aftermarket stuff is junk.
The frame on this CJ of course also isn't rotten or repaired.
It is full thickness w no rot ever.
The Laredo model is more than stickers. It is full of original 40 year old parts the Chinese don't make. I say it that way as many CJs being sold are called restored. They are restored because they had to be. They don't come back better. They come back Chinese full of facsimile parts of poor quality with tons of labor. You know this. What thing made in China is of better quality than something made in USA? Everything Laredo on this Jeep is original and nice. Here is the list:
Original working clock
Original working tachometer
Original Leather steering wheel w rare horn button and optional tilt lever)
Original Laredo badge on glove box door
Original Leather grab bar
Original not recovered and not torn Laredo seats in far better than expected condition (rear seat is fold and tumble
Original center console
Original aluminum rocker trim
Original Chrome bumperettes (on the rear)
Original Chrome front bumper w rare AMC end caps (the curved pieces)
Original JEEP frame cover
Original 5 chrome wheels and center caps in far better condition than 40 year old chrome should be in. These wheels still have the original clearcoat on them and would shine even brighter if it was removed.
Nice original Laredo door panels
Nice original roll bar pad.
Optional original AMC parts
Original optional Marchal fog lights w their cat decals on them w nice chrome and original rocker switch inside.
Original not reproduction owners manual.
Trac loc rear differential (AMC Positraction)
Hardtop and Hard doors. Hardtop is 40 year old original paint and very respectable but not new looking. Doors are very nice.
20 gallon Fuel tank
The 2 post radio was probably dealer installed and works. The previous owner installed a Conferr brand steel storage box behind the rear seat. I have one of these in my Scrambler. It has 2 speakers mounted in it that work. It is a nice mod but is removable. I have the optional cheaply made but expensive to purchase OEM JEEP plastic box as an option at the end of this description
Everything works...lights, gauges, horn etc w possible exception discussed below (AC)
This has dealer installed AC. It has refrigerant in it but is very cold in Ohio. I would expect it to require servicing to be in optimal condition but the blower does work.
Original spare tire from 1985 on the back in new condition. It is not the new knock off Wrangler being sold by WalMart.
The front push bar easily unbolts if this Jeep isn't quite boring enough. I like the push bar and it's era correct. Throw on a couple KC lights w smiley covers and all will be right with the world.
The suspension of a CJ is BOLT ON w no fabrication required. I see noise on the web from new originality snobs calling a lift molesting. Molesting involves at a minimum a welder, drill and or a sawzall.
If it bolts on and unbolts and leaves no trace, it isn't molesting.
All my CJs personal CJs are lifted. Some people want small and that's ok. It doesn't make anyone right or wrong.
That said, the suspension on this CJ is undebatably better than OEM. It has solid spring mounts w gussets at the shackle end. The originals were turned eyes that opened up w time and led to a lean or loose feeling or both. These front springs are 25% wider than oem which makes for more stable / flatter handling. It is a $2k cost Old Man Emu kit for parts only. It is the best available.
If you read all this I hope you feel smarter about what I have to sell. I hate seeing an ad that is full of AI and history about the model and fluff w no actual information about the vehicle being sold to you for your hard earned money.
The negotiable part of this CJ. I don't know why other shops don't do this.
Without hard top: Less $1500
Without Hard doors: Less $2000
Without driving lights: Less $750
Add Bestop super top: Add $1350 installed (this can work with the hard doors)
Add Bestop Supertop 2 piece soft doors: Add $650 installed
Exchange quality steel rear storage box w plastic OEM JEEP trunk box: Add $1000 (rear speakers would be removed).
Unlift Jeep to OEM springs / hangers/shackles and new stock shocks; No charge (Rudy keeps removed lift for his Jeeps)
Change tires on this Jeep from the nearly new 31x10.50r15 BFG AT tires to a par set of nearly new 32x11.50r15 BFG (Rudy has in stock). No charge. I like the look of this Jeep and its current stance but could also appreciate a little bit bigger tire. You get to decide.
Add Howell EFI: $3500 installed
Please call to discuss anything.
Thank you!
